![]() ![]() If the sea and view are important to you then this may not be the ideal hotel. The hotel are doing a fantastic job working to protect the shoreline and the coral reef, but I think people should be aware of this before booking so that they can make an informed choice. Sea - Do not be misled by the sea view pictures of this hotel, the sea view is blighted by dozens of these concrete blocks, which are doing the job they are meant to do and will apparently sink into the sand in around a year. There are also cranes working next to the hotel and out in the ocean putting in the large concrete blocks that protect the shore. The Generations is a high rise concrete hotel which looks very out of place and was the reason we originally did not want to move. Both of these areas are extremely pretty, low rise apartments which are in keeping with the Mexican/Caribbean feel. We spoke to many other English couples who booked the resort expecting fine dining in elegant restaurants, where you could dress up and feel a little bit spoiled, and although you did get this you also had to share the experience with groups of what can only be compared to ‘hen and stag parties’, similar to those found in Magaluf, drinking shots at dinner and dressed like they had just left the beach!! Hotel - The hotel also looks like one you might find in Spain and is definitely not in keeping with the Royale and Casita’s next door. This was not just something that happened at the 3 Generations restaurants, it also happened every night at the restaurants in the Casita and Royale areas, which you are free to use but are adult only. On occasions it was so bad that we could not even hear the waiters who had to lean in and speak into our ears. At times groups were also chanting baseball songs and shouting from one end of a table to the other, and we are talking long tables of 12. Some were turned away if they were wearing t-shirts and were asked to remove baseball caps, but the dress code was not strict and really spoils the feel of the restaurants. ![]() HOWEVER, and it is a big however, be aware that every time we dined in any of the restaurants we were joined by large VERY loud wedding party groups with the men wearing polo shirts, cargo shorts and flip-flops, on occasions we men were even wearing t-shirts and baseball caps. Restaurants - There are 3 beautiful restaurants at the hotel which are superb, the décor in all 3 are outstanding, as is the food, they are top class gourmet and the service is exceptional. With the resort credit we had 2 couples massages on the beach which were very good and took place at the Casita and Royale spa areas. We decided that we would use the hotel for the room only, which was fantastic and spent the days at the Royale adult’s only end of the resort. Every English couple we met were also offered the upgrade. ![]() We were offered an upgrade on the 3rd day of our 14 day holiday, the first upgrade offer included a $300 resort credit and free Wi-Fi which we declined, but every 3 days we were offered more and more incentives to ‘upgrade’ to this hotel and eventually we accepted $500 resort credit and free Wi-Fi to stay in the hotel for our last 3 nights. We were staying at the El Dorado Royale resort for 2 weeks which is next door but were ‘upgraded’ to the Generations Hotel. We have just returned from the hotel where we spent 3 nights. ![]()
